UMAPP offers a wide variety of valuable benefits for its members. Membership in UMAPP is by company, and each organization must meet certain membership criteria (such as an existing ASI or PPAI number, or the ability to provide 10 invoices or purchase orders from 10 different distributor or supplier members that are already in the industry). All staff under each member company has full access to UMAPP's events and benefits.
Two major trade shows per year
Our Booth Show, held in May at the RiverCentre, is the largest trade show of its kind in the Upper Midwest. Our Room Show is held in August at the Embassy Suites Bloomington and features 14-16 exhibitors that provide a full day of in-depth product information during 25-minute seminars.
Four scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each for undergraduate students or high school seniors. Staff of UMAPP member companies and their children are eligible to apply. The program is administered through Scholarship America. Applications are always on-line by January 15, and must be postmarked by April 1.
Professional Development Seminars
Topics in the past: include ways to increase sales, personality traits, panel discussions from million dollar producers, more panel discussions on subjects between suppliers and distributors, artwork 101, intermediate artwork, generational marketing, and more. UMAPP also includes a free factory bus tour to local supplier factories each spring for its distributor members.
Printed and an on-line "E-News" supplement. The Navigator newsletter is published six times per year, packed with industry information, press releases, pictures from UMAPP events, the President's column, and more. The on-line E-News is emailed monthly and is a supplement to the printed newsletter, and is complete with reminders about upcoming events, links to register, and more.
The Xpress is an avenue for suppliers to send out one-page flyers to distributor members of the Association. Instead of putting inserts into the newsletter, suppliers send us their flyers quarterly, we package them up, and send them out to approximately 350 distributor sales reps. The flyers include self promos, special promotions, new item announcements, and more!
Scholarships for CAS and MAS Designations
What is a CAS or MAS, you ask? These are special designations assigned by PPAI (Promotional Products Association International) to set individuals apart from their competition. Less than 4% of industry professionals take the time to earn their CAS or MAS designation. The CAS comes first (Certified Advertising Specialist), and once achieved through a combination of CEUs and sitting for an exam, then the MAS (Master Advertising Specialist) can be achieved by accumulating additional points and sitting for a second exam.
Gathering the amount of CEUs necessary can take years, so UMAPP offers two $1,500 scholarships to individuals who are working toward achieving their CAS or MAS designation. These funds from the scholarship are designed to be used an any of PPAI's professional development seminars held across the country (excluding the Expo). Applications are always on-line by September 15, and due back by the end of November. Winners are announced in December for the following year.
